Manager Planning & Scheduling

The Manager of Planning & Scheduling leads the Planning & Scheduling group. The manager will coordinate the activities of the group in support of ensuring a timely flow of material within the Waukegan plant and effective production scheduling of multiple production cells in support of on-time production and shipping of product. The Manager of Planning & Scheduling is also responsible for training and developing the members of the group to ensure they have the necessary skills & abilities to perform their job duties.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate and lead sales operations planning meeting for Waukegan plant
  2. Prepare reports for all planning activity metrics and analyze all results to recommend required improvements in performance and collaborate with Purchasing Manager and Operations Manager to forecast all required strategies.
  3. Work closely with Product Managers to plan inventory levels, taking into account extraordinary demand or trends in the marketplace.
  4. Establish KPIs & Sub-KPIs to develop & confirm target achievement.
  5. Support the Continuous Improvement process by aggressively seeking ways to improve delivery performance, improve capacity and efficiency and improve the planning/scheduling process.
  6. Support group with problem identification & prioritization and assign identified problems to group members to solve.
  7. Assist new product development and product line simplification and ensure optimal inventory level at all times.
  8. Determine Planning methodology and cadence for all products and components (MTS, ATO, MTO) and communicate results to all stakeholders.
  9. Plan inventory levels and locations and execute all forecasting and planning programs.
  10. Review inventory turns by component and sales part number and suggest new inventory plan to stakeholders
  11. Analyze work center capacity and set planning lead time accordingly.Working with production manager and Purchasing manager, execute to capacity plan (we can discuss this in more detail)
  12. Lead and/or participate in cross-functional teams locally & globally.
  13. Coordinate with different departments to resolve back order issues as they occur.
  14. Train, develop and promote employees.
  15. Monitor employee performance for productivity and accuracy of work.
  16. Create a safe work environment by follow all safety rules.
  17. Coach problem solving on a daily basis.
  18. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Skills/Abilities:

  1. Proven ability to determine work flow and develop effective standard processes in support of group activities.
  2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Superb data analysis skills, e.g. Microsoft Excel and Access
  4. Proven team management experience (at least team of 2)
  5. Experience coaching problem solving in a supply chain environment.
  6. A solid understanding of the financial aspects of inventory management.
  7. Knowledge of inventory control theory and its connection to operating philosophy.
  8. Solid understanding of Inventory planning methods such as: MPR, Visual based pull systems, Production scheduling on general purpose and dedicated machinery. 
  9. The ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, department employees, co-workers, and manufacturer’s employees.
  10. The ability to identify and resolve system issues/problems and define potential deficiencies that could prevent execution of the sales plan.
  11. Experience supervising and developing others.

 

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S.) from four-year college or university; and five years related experience
